Banksia railway station is located on the Illawarra railway line of Sydney's CityRail network, in the southern Sydney suburb of Banksia. It consists of two island platforms, with access via a pedestrian subway at the northern (citybound) end. The ticket office is also located in the subway. Access is provided west to Railway Street and east to Hattersley Street and the Princes Highway.

History

The Illawarra line to Hurstville opened on 15 October 1884.[1] A railway league was formed by residents to lobby for a station here and Banksia railway station opened on 21 October 1906 with a footbridge at the Sydney end. The pedestrian subway was built as part of the track quadruplication in 1923.[2]

Platforms and services

Trains gerenally use platforms 1 and 2 during peak hours, and 3 and 4 at other times.

The station is served by two trains per hour each way, with additional trains during weekday peak hours.
